Kenworth C580 | New Extreme-Duty Vocational Truck

Kenworth C580: the new extreme-duty vocational truck built for the toughest jobs

When conditions get tougher, equipment has to rise to the occasion. With the launch of the Kenworth C580, Kenworth is opening a new chapter in the world of the extreme-duty vocational truck. Unveiled on March 3, 2026, at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas, this new model replaces the iconic C500 and is already positioned as the toughest truck ever offered by the brand.

Designed for off-highway and severe-service applications, the Kenworth C580 was built for the realities of the field, where loads are massive, duty cycles are relentless, and operating conditions leave little room for compromise. From mining and oilfield work to logging, heavy equipment transport, and specialized hauling, this new Kenworth truck is designed for operations that demand power, endurance, and reliability every step of the way.

A new Kenworth truck that builds on a legendary legacy

Since 1972, the Kenworth C500 has earned a reputation as one of the most rugged and capable vocational trucks ever built. It has worked in some of the harshest environments in the world, proving itself in applications where few commercially available trucks could perform with the same confidence.

With the C580, Kenworth carries that legacy forward. This new extreme-duty vocational truck combines the proven durability of the C500 chassis with a more modern cab, advanced technologies, and improved integration for today’s vocational needs. Production of the C580 is scheduled to begin in January 2027, while the C500 will be phased out through the end of 2026.

This is more than a model transition. It is a strategic evolution for Kenworth and a clear statement about the future of off-highway vocational performance.

Built for extreme-duty loads and severe-service performance

One of the most impressive aspects of the Kenworth C580 is its ability to handle exceptionally demanding workloads. The truck is capable of hauling a gross combination weight of up to one million pounds, placing it in a class of its own.

Available in both single- and twin-steer axle configurations, the C580 can also be equipped with front-drive axle options that enable 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, and 10×10 setups. This flexibility makes it a serious solution for operators who need a truck that can perform in difficult terrain and severe-duty environments.

Its axle ratings are equally impressive. The C580 supports up to 44,000 pounds on twin steer axles and up to 165,000 pounds on tandem rear axles. Simply put, this Kenworth truck is engineered to take on jobs that push conventional vocational equipment to the limit.

Power and transmission options designed for demanding applications

In North America, the Kenworth C580 comes standard with EPA-compliant Cummins X15 engines, with ratings of up to 605 horsepower and 2,050 lb.-ft. of torque. For export markets, additional Cummins X15 engine options are available with various levels of Euro emissions compliance.

Kenworth also offers a full range of transmission options to match the truck to the job. The C580 is available with manual transmissions, Allison 4000 and 6000 Series automatic transmissions, and, for the first time in the extreme-duty segment, the advanced Eaton Endurant XD Pro automated transmission.

For fleets operating in severe conditions, this range of powertrain options gives customers the flexibility to configure the Kenworth C580 around their specific application requirements.

Engineered for durability, cooling, and specialized integration

The Kenworth C580 was developed to perform in some of the harshest working conditions imaginable, including high-altitude environments, extreme heat, and high-horsepower stationary operation. It features a large 1,780-square-inch cooling module, helping support reliable performance when applications demand more from the truck.

Its design also includes full-length parent frame rails extending to the front of the chassis, along with FEPTO capability for specialized vocational applications. Standard dual 13-inch cowl-mounted ERA air cleaners contribute to both performance and serviceability.

Durability remains at the heart of the platform. The C580 features abrasion-resistant double-wrapped exterior wiring harnesses, a sheet metal hood and fenders, robust five-piece crossmembers, and improved component access to support service and body installation. Its shared electrical architecture with other Kenworth vocational models also helps simplify the integration of power takeoffs, auxiliary lighting, remote throttle controls, and other body-specific functions.

For customers looking for an off-highway vocational truck that can stand up to tough conditions while supporting specialized equipment, the C580 is clearly built with that mission in mind.

A modern cab for today’s vocational operators

Although the Kenworth C580 is built for extreme-duty work, it also delivers the comfort and technology expected in today’s premium vocational trucks. Its new cab incorporates many of the modern design and technology elements found in other Kenworth vocational models, including the T880.

Drivers benefit from improved visibility, a larger windshield, an optimized hood slope, and more room between the seats compared to the previous C500. A customizable 15-inch digital display clearly presents gauges and critical operating information, supporting safer and more efficient performance on the job.

Heated LED headlamps come standard, helping improve visibility and safety in all conditions. The truck also offers Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as well as TruckTech+ Remote Diagnostics, which provides real-time insights into vehicle health and usage. For fleet managers and operators alike, these technologies add value by supporting uptime, safety, and better decision-making.

Why the Kenworth C580 is already generating attention

The Kenworth C580 does more than replace a respected legacy model. It answers a current and growing need in the market for a more advanced extreme-duty vocational truck that combines proven ruggedness with modern driver-focused technology.

In industries where uptime, safety, and productivity directly affect profitability, the C580 positions itself as a purpose-built solution for severe-service and off-highway applications. It is designed for businesses that need more than just a truck on paper. They need a truck that delivers in the real world, day after day, under the toughest operating conditions.

That is exactly where the Kenworth C580 stands apart.
